    Acceptance of IWBs Instruction and Concomitant Behavior through Self-regulation Learning

    The integration of interactive whiteboards into the classroom has been promoted as a key step in bridging the ICT age. The reason that interactive whiteboard enables students to access up-to-date information via interactive learning environment. This study was to investigate the perception of teachers regarding the impact of interactive whiteboards initiative. The technology acceptance model was used as the theoretical framework but self-regulated learning was added as a possible moderating factor. Data analysis was applied by SEM technique. The conclusions were: (1) there are highly recognitions on the perceived ease of use (PEU) and perceived usefulness (PU)ļ¼›(2) there is a strong behavior intention (BI) to use IWBs; (3) there are positive relationship between PEU, PU, and BI; (4) BI has a direct impact on the actual use (AU); (5) the strategy of self-regulated learning was found to moderate the relationship between BI and AU

    Emotion and Concentration Integrated System: Applied to the Detection and Analysis of Consumer Preference

    With the expansion of consumer market, the appearance becomes an important issue when consumers make decisions under the situation of similar qualities and contents. Accordingly, to attract consumers, companies cost and take much attention on product appearance. Compared to using questionnaires individually, obtaining humansā€™ thoughts directly from their brains can accurately grasp the actual preference of consumers, which can provide effective and precious decisions for companies. \ In this study, consumersā€™ brainwaves which are related to concentration and emotion are extracted by wearing a portable and wireless Electroencephalography (EEG) device. The extracted EEG data are then trained by using perceptron learning algorithm (PLA) to make the judgments of concentration and emotion work well with each subject. They are then applied to the detection and analysis of consumer preference. Finally, the questionnaires are also performed and used as the reference on training process. They are integrated with brainwaves data to create one prediction model which can improve the accuracy significantly. The Partial Least Squares is used to compare the correlation between different factors in the model, to ensure the test can accurately meet consumersā€™ thoughts

    An Investigation of Factors Affecting Elementary School Studentsā€™ BMI Values Based on the System Dynamics Modeling

    This study used system dynamics method to investigate the factors affecting elementary school studentsā€™ BMI values. The construction of the dynamic model is divided into the qualitative causal loop and the quantitative system dynamics modeling. According to the system dynamics modeling, this study consisted of research on the four dimensions: studentā€™s personal life style, diet-relevant parenting behaviors, advocacy and implementation of school nutrition education, and studentsā€™ peer interaction. The results of this study showed that students with more adequate health concepts usually have better eating behaviors and consequently have less chance of becoming obese. In addition, this study also verified that educational attainment and socioeconomic status of parents have a positive correlation with studentsā€™ amounts of physical activity, and nutrition education has a prominent influence on changing studentsā€™ high-calorie diets

    Dilated Dense U-Net for Infant Hippocampus Subfield Segmentation

    Accurate and automatic segmentation of infant hippocampal subfields from magnetic resonance (MR) images is an important step for studying memory related infant neurological diseases. However, existing hippocampal subfield segmentation methods were generally designed based on adult subjects, and would compromise performance when applied to infant subjects due to insufficient tissue contrast and fast changing structural patterns of early hippocampal development. In this paper, we propose a new fully convolutional network (FCN) for infant hippocampal subfield segmentation by embedding the dilated dense network in the U-net, namely DUnet. The embedded dilated dense network can generate multi-scale features while keeping high spatial resolution, which is useful in fusing the low-level features in the contracting path with the high-level features in the expanding path. To further improve the performance, we group every pair of convolutional layers with one residual connection in the DUnet, and obtain the Residual DUnet (ResDUnet). Experimental results show that our proposed DUnet and ResDUnet improve the average Dice coefficient by 2.1 and 2.5% for infant hippocampal subfield segmentation, respectively, when compared with the classic 3D U-net. The results also demonstrate that our methods outperform other state-of-the-art methods

    BSRS-5 (5-item Brief Symptom Rating Scale) scores affect every aspect of quality of life measured by WHOQOL-BREF in healthy workers

    This study aims to evaluate and quantify the possible effect of psychological symptoms on healthy workers' quality of life (QOL). The workers were recruited from a factory in south Taiwan. We assessed their psychological symptoms with a 5-item brief symptom rating scale (BSRS-5) and measured the QOL using the Taiwanese version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL)-BREF. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to explore the association between the two tools after control of confounding by other predictors. A total of 1,080 workers , who attended a physical examination, completed questionnaires and informed consent forms. Scores on the BSRS-5 significantly predicted scores in each domain and items of the WHOQOL-BREF. The magnitude of psychological domain score seemed to be affected the most; every 1 point increase in BSRS-5 was associated with a 0.39 raw score (equivalent to 2. 44 percentile) decrease in QOL. The sleep facet of WHOQOL appeared to have the highest association, followed by items of negative feelings, energy, and concentration. The BSRS-5 score is predictive for scores of all four domains and 26 items of the Taiwanese version of the WHOQOL-BREF for regular factory workers

    Altered Striatocerebellar Metabolism and Systemic Inflammation in Parkinsonā€™s Disease

    Parkinsonā€™s disease (PD) is the most second common neurodegenerative movement disorder. Neuroinflammation due to systemic inflammation and elevated oxidative stress is considered a major factor promoting the pathogenesis of PD, but the relationship of structural brain imaging parameters to clinical inflammatory markers has not been well studied. Our aim was to evaluate the association of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) measures with inflammatory markers. Blood samples were collected from 33 patients with newly diagnosed PD and 30 healthy volunteers. MRS data including levels of N-acetylaspartate (NAA), creatine (Cre), and choline (Cho) were measured in the bilateral basal ganglia and cerebellum. Inflammatory markers included plasma nuclear DNA, plasma mitochondrial DNA, and apoptotic leukocyte levels. The Cho/Cre ratio in the dominant basal ganglion, the dominant basal ganglia to cerebellum ratios of two MRS parameters NAA/Cre and Cho/Cre, and levels of nuclear DNA, mitochondrial DNA, and apoptotic leukocytes were significantly different between PD patients and normal healthy volunteers. Significant positive correlations were noted between MRS measures and inflammatory marker levels. In conclusion, patients with PD seem to have abnormal levels of inflammatory markers in the peripheral circulation and deficits in MRS measures in the dominant basal ganglion and cerebellum

    A Putative Zn2Cys6 Transcription Factor Is Associated With Isoprothiolane Resistance in Magnaporthe oryzae

    Isoprothiolane (IPT), a systemic fungicide, has been applied to control rice blast since the 1970s. Although resistance to IPT has been observed, the mechanism of resistance still has not been fully elucidated. In this study, nucleotide polymorphisms were detected between two IPT-resistant mutants generated in the lab, and their parental wild type isolates using a whole-genome sequencing approach. In the genomes of the two resistant mutants, single point mutations were identified in a gene encoding a Zn2Cys6 transcription factor-like protein. Notably, either knocking out the gene or replacing the wild type allele with the mutant allele (R343W) in a wild type isolate resulted in resistance to IPT, indicating that the gene is associated with IPT resistance, and thus was designated as MoIRR (Magnaporthe oryzae isoprothiolane resistance related). Along with point mutations R343W in mutant 1a_mut, and R345C in 1c_mut, a 16 bp insertion in 6c_mut was also located in the Fungal_TF_MHR domain of MoIRR, revealing that this domain may be the core element for IPT resistance. In addition, IPT-resistant mutants and transformants showed cross-resistance with iprobenfos (IBP), which was consistent with previous observations. These results indicated that MoIRR is strongly connected to resistance to choline biosynthesis inhibitor (CBI), and further work should focus on investigating downstream effects of MoIRR

    Malaria training for community health workers in the setting of elimination: a qualitative study from China

    Background: Continuous training of health workers is a key intervention to maintain their good performance and keep their vigilance during malaria elimination programmes. However, countries progressing toward malaria elimination have a largely decreased malaria disease burden, less frequent exposure of health workers to malaria patients, and new challenges in the epidemiology of the remaining malaria cases. Moreover, competing health priorities and usually a decline in resources and in political commitment also pose challenges to the elimination programme. As a consequence, the acceptability, sustainability, and impact of malaria training and education programmes face challenges. However, little is known of the perceptions and expectations of malaria training and education programmes of health workers being engaged in countries with malaria elimination programmes. Methods: This qualitative study provides information on perceptions and expectations of health workers of malaria training programmes from China, which aims to malaria elimination by the year 2020. This study was embedded into a larger study on the challenges and lessons learned during the malaria surveillance strategy in China, involving 42 interviews with malaria experts, health staff, laboratory practitioners, and village doctors at the provincial, city, county, township, and village levels from Gansu province (northwestern China) and Jiangsu province (southeastern China). Results: In the context of an increasing number of imported malaria cases in China, the majority of respondents emphasized the necessity and importance of such programmes and complained about a decreasing frequency of training courses. Moreover, they called for innovative strategies to improve the implementation and sustainability of the malaria training programmes until the elimination goal has been achieved. Perceptions and expectations of health workers from different health centres were quite different. Health workers from higher-level facilities were more concerned about technical training aspects, while health workers from periphery of the health system expected to receive more training on field work coordination and on specific public health actions with regard to case detection and focus investigation. Conclusions: There is need to guarantee an ongoing good training of health workers in China on malaria aspects until the year 2020 and probably beyond
